In the golden haze of late afternoon, Simone Cull sat in an open safari jeep, immersed in the raw beauty of Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Surrounded by wildlife and the vast African landscape, she felt completely at peace—grateful, grounded, and deeply connected to the wild.

As she photographed the animals moving gracefully through the dust and light, her soul felt full. Then, across the plains, something stirred—something monumental. A lone bull elephant appeared in the distance, bathed in the glow of the setting sun. Dust danced around him with every deliberate step. It was a breathtaking scene, one that pulsed with power and emotion.

Her heart raced—not out of fear, but from sheer exhilaration. Years of watching wildlife documentaries had taught her to recognise the signs: this magnificent elephant was in musth, a heightened state of testosterone-fueled intensity. And he was walking directly toward them.

Camera in hand, Simone captured frame after frame, completely mesmerised as he drew closer. The air was thick with tension and awe. With no other elephants or vehicles nearby, it became clear—this bull wasn’t just passing through; he believed the safari jeep was his rival.

He came so close she could feel his presence in her chest. At the last moment, the guide started the engine. In a powerful, deliberate motion, the elephant turned and strode past, majestic and unbothered.

It was a soul-stirring encounter—one of those rare moments in African wildlife photography where everything aligns: light, emotion, and the raw force of nature.
